10 Deep Water Core Exercises

Freed from gravity and moving up, down and all around, this 20-minute water fitness video features 10 deep water exercises that target the core muscles with vertical to horizontal movement. Deep Core Explore is perfect for combining with another pool workout using the Poolfit playlist feature.

Blending vertical and horizontal movement, also known as “vertizontal,” is my favorite way to exercise in deep water. In 2010, I filmed Vertizontal, a deep-water exercise DVD, and I have been incorporating vertical to horizontal movement in my videos ever since. The reason I favor this style of exercise is because it not only provides cardio, but it also delivers highly effective core training. The core muscles must do all of the work to power the body from vertical to horizontal and back down again. Additionally, exercising in a horizontal (modified supine) position keeps core muscles engaged the entire time.

Pool Workout-at-a-Glance
This 20-minute deep water workout does not include a warm-up or cool down because it is intended to be combined with another workout using the Poolfit playlist feature. There are 10 core combinations. Each combination includes two moves. One move is performed both vertical and horizontal. The other move is intended to move you up horizontal and back down to vertical. Equipment is not required; however a deep-water flotation belt should be worn in all deep water fitness activities.

In closing, I want to wish you a Happy New Year, filled with health, happiness and lots of splashy workouts. Thank you for exercising with us in 2024.
