All aboard! Join Chris on the Dude Move Express. This 15-minute workout includes two exercise circuits, one using the pool wall and the other featuring high intensity interval training (HIIT). These express videos are ideal to keep in your downloads and combine with other full workouts when you want extra cardio, abs, legs, arms, stretching and more.
The inspiration for Dude Moves HIIT & Wall was Chris’s own water fitness journey. Recovering from a back injury, he started talking his wife, Jenni Lynn Patterson LaCour’s aquatic fitness classes and was often the only male participant. Over time, he started turbo charging the movements that were being taught with a more aggressive approach. Eventually Jenni Lynn recruited him to start teaching classes with her in New York City.
Based on his own experience taking aquatic fitness classes, Chris resolved to get more men in his classes and the only way to do that was to make them more comfortable. Men often eschew group fitness programming, especially aquatic fitness, because the classes are often taught with movements that make them feel awkward. Chris learned how to make the moves bigger, bolder, more masculine and more athletic. Watch Chris talk more about Dude Moves.
Wall exercises became a staple of Chris’s classes because the variations of push-off, taps and kicks were challenging and had a more masculine edge. HIIT was also a favorite with the male class participants because it pushed them to a higher level of athletic performance. Over time Chris and Jenni Lynn started packing their S’WET classes with not just men, but younger men. Wondering what that looks like? Here’s a sneak peak of S’WET’s Aqua Men
In the previous video above, Chris references two other installments of Dude Moves. Both were created before Poolfit launched. The original 20-minute Dude Moves posted on Fitmotivation in 2018 and was similar to the current video in that it included wall exercises and power cardio. The second installment took Dude Moves to the deep end and incorporated hand buoys and noodles. This video posted on Fitmotivation in 2019. Fitmotivation is Poolfit’s sister site and is designed for aquatic fitness instructors. If there is an interest from Poolfit subscribers, I can review the other two videos to see if they are suitable to pull from the archives and post on Poolfit as workouts. Many of Fitmotivation’s videos were produced with a more educational slant for instructors.
Poolfit extends a big thank you to Chris for elevating water fitness to a new level and for exposing more men to the challenges and benefits that water exercise provides.
