Take a break from high intensity cardio and strength training and enjoy a day of active recovery, training other essential fitness components. Aqua Balance & Brain Flow with Maria Teresa Stone is a shallow water neurobic movement challenge that features 45 minutes of lower intensity exercise for both the brain and the body.
Doing high intensity cardio or strength every day is not necessarily recommended. Cardiorespiratory and muscular endurance are just two of the fitness components required for optimal health. To be the healthiest version of yourself, it is important to incorporate a day or two of active recovery to train other fitness components, such as joint mobility, muscular flexibility, balance, coordination and more. The movement patterns in this video are specifically designed to exercise the brain and body with agility and coordination challenges.
Below, Maria talks more about the video and then read on for a summary of the workout.
Aqua Balance & Brain Flow - Workout Summary
This 45-minute shallow water workout includes a warm-up, cool down and four 10-minute Balance & Brain Flow Segments. There is no equipment required in this pool workout.
The neurobic movement breakdown of each segment is as follows:
Begin with a single arm movement
Add in the opposite leg with the single arm movement
Repeat with the other arm, and then leg
Perform the movement with both arms.
Then do just the legs (both)
Then combine both arms and legs
After each neurobic movement sequence, a "brain break" is included. Balance training is implemented during this break.
