Alphabet Water Aerobic Splash

Wednesday, March 27 2024

Aqua Alphabet is a water aerobic workout that features 26 water exercises, each corresponding to a letter of the alphabet. Pick your preferred depth and then its game on. Once all the exercises are introduced, it is time for mixer rounds and memory pop quizzes. Deep or shallow, this cardio pool workout also offers a bit of a neurobic brain challenge.

Aqua Alphabet was inspired by a subscriber request to create a workout using the alphabet. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what this subscriber meant by this, but I decided to rise to the challenge. The result is a fun cardio routine that features 26 water exercises, in addition to mixer rounds and memory drills designed to enhance mental acuity.  Like I often do, I strived to design the routine so that it could be performed in both deep and shallow water.  Watch the video below and then read more about the details of the workout.

POOL WORKOUT-AT-A-GLANCE
There are many ways that the 26 water exercises could have been instructed, but I chose to keep it rather straight forward.  Aqua Alphabet is a 57-minute pool workout that includes a very brief warm-up, a cool down and 7 exercise segments. This workout can be enjoyed in both deep and shallow water. Aside from a flotation belt in deep water, equipment is not used. However, feel free to use webbed gloves to increase the water’s resistance.
Segment 1:  A-F
The first 6 water exercises are introduced after a very brief warm-up. The exercises are taught three times through. First for 30 seconds each, and then twice for 15 seconds each.  This keeps the action brisk.
Segment 2:  G-L
The next 6 exercises are introduced. After the exercises in each segment are taught, there are pop quizzes to see if you remember the exercise that corresponds to the letter of the move. This introduces some neurobics to the pool workout. Neurobics are mental activities designed to stimulate the brain.
Segment 3:  M-S
The next 7 exercises are taught.  Because there are 26 letters in the alphabet, this round and the next one had an extra exercise.
Segment 4:  T-Z
The final 7 exercises are introduced with another pop quiz at the end.
Segment 5:  All A-Z
Get ready for a final exam. All 26 exercises are taught for 15 seconds each.
Segment 6:  High-Energy Mixer
It’s time for the first mixer round. This mixer round features five of the exercises that have a higher intensity.
Segment 7:  Core Mixer
This mixer round features five of the exercises that require more core activation.
Segment 8:  Alphabet Stretch
The Alphabet is used again with a stretch performed to letters of the alphabet that target select muscles.

Aqua Alphabet is one of those water aerobic workouts where you decide how hard you want to work.  The intensity can be an 8 out of 10 if you are feeling energetic and want to work hard.  It can also be 6 out of 10 if you prefer or need a more moderate workout. I hope you enjoy this splashy alphabet challenge.  And if you are enjoying Poolfit, please consider helping us by leaving a review in the App Store or Play Store. It would be huge help to us as we gear up for another pool season.
