As people get older, their exercise habits should evolve to meet the needs of their aging body. Deep or shallow, this joint-friendly workout utilizes a pair of foam dumbbells and meets you where you are on the fitness spectrum.
EXERCISE AND THE AGING BODY
Exercise activities in your 20’s, 30’s and 40’s begins to change dramatically in your 50’s and 60’s as a lifetime of wear and tear takes a toll. Older adults must learn how to navigate their exercise around achy joints and chronic health issues. Joint-friendly fitness activities that still maintain intensity become preferred, which is why older adults tend to gravitate towards water exercise. Stretching to avoid injury and balance training to avoid falls also become more important. Ultimately, exercising as an older adult becomes all about training to meet the needs of activities of daily living (ADLs). As people transition into their 70s and 80s, the overriding goal of physical activity is to stay strong in order to maintain independent living.
S'WET SILVER
Jenni Lynn’s inspiration for Silver Wave Warriors came from a couple of earlier videos that she filmed for Fitmotivation.com. Fitmotivation is Poolfit’s sister platform, an on-demand streaming video platform for water fitness instructors. Silver S’WET, filmed in 2018, was her first foray into older adult programming after becoming well known for her high intensity boot camp videos. Deck Blocks was filmed shortly after. This content of Deck Blocks led to her signature S’WET programs that focuses on “Structured Water Exercise Training,” where classes are built in blocks to meet the needs of the essential components of fitness. Silver S’WET is now a certificate program for instructors and Silver Wave Warriors is a video that encompasses the essence of S’WET Silver programming. Below Jenni Lynn talks more about her inspiration for S'WET Silver, and then read on for a summary of the video action.
