Aqua Alphabet 2 features another round of 26 water exercises that correspond to a letter of the alphabet. Pick your preferred depth and then its game-on in this 60-minute water aerobic workout. Once the 26 exercises have been mastered, it’s “game on” with memory pop quizzes, a dice round, an AMRAP challenge and a core finisher. Deep or shallow, this cardio pool workout provides both neurobic and aerobic benefits for the brain and the body.
The original Aqua Alphabet was a big hit in Spring 2024. Consequently, I felt like another round of exercises and games was in order. Based on practicing this workout in the pool for a couple of weeks, I can testify that this round of exercises is a bit more intense than the first, with a cardio output that is a solid 7 to 8 out of 10. With that said, exercise participants can work at their own pace. The pace that I teach from deck is simply a goal that you can strive towards. Like the original workout, there are memory pop quizzes that engage both brain and brawn. In Aqua Alphabet 2, I got a bit more creative with ways to “game” the letters once all 26 exercises are mastered. Like the first round, this alphabet routine was designed to be performed in both deep and shallow water. Watch the video below and then read more about the workout details.
AQUA ALPHABET 2-AT-A-GLANCE
Aqua Alphabet 2 is a 60-minute high-energy water aerobic workout that includes a very brief warm-up, a cool down and 8 exercise segments. This pool workout can be performed in both deep and shallow water. A flotation belt is required in deep water. Otherwise, equipment is not used. The water’s resistance is plenty. However, feel free to wear webbed gloves to increase the water’s resistance.
Segment 1: Letters A-F
The first six water exercises are introduced after a very brief warm-up. The exercises are performed three times, first for 30 seconds each, and then twice through for 15 seconds each. This repetition provides the cardio endurance and helps participants master and memorize the exercises.
Segment 2: Letters G-L
The action continues as the next six exercises are introduced. In each of the segments, memory pop quizzes are instructed to help participants remember the exercises corresponding to each letter. Neurobics refers to adding a mental challenge to aerobic exercise.
Segment 3: M-S
Given that there are 26 letters in the alphabet, this round and the next one include an extra letter, for a total of seven exercises.
Segment 4: T-Z
The final seven exercises are introduced and mastered.
Segment 5: All A-Z
Ready or not, it’s time to see how well you memorized and mastered the exercises. It’s your final exam! All 26 water exercises are performed at a brisk pace of 15 seconds each.
Segment 6: Dice Round
Now that all 26 exercises have been mastered, it’s time to “game” the letters. The first game involves a big foam dice. Like traditional dice, there are six numerals on the dice, 1-6. A series of letters are chosen for this round. As the dice is tossed, each of the exercises is performed by the number appearing on the dice, from 10 to 60 seconds.
Segment 7: AMRAP Challenge
AMRAP stands for “As many reps as possible.” Three letters (exercises) are chosen, and the first exercise is performed for 30 seconds. Participants are asked to count the number of reps they achieve in 30 seconds. That same is exercise is then performed a second time for 30 seconds and the goal is to try and get at least one more rep in the second round. The same process is repeated for the other two exercises. AMRAP is an effective way to enhance intensity with self-competition.
Segment 8: Core Finisher
This quick segment is only 3 minutes long and features a flow of four of the letters (exercises) that most target the muscles of the core.
Segment 9: Alphabet Stretch
The final stretch is performed to letters of the alphabet that target select muscles for stretching.
