Just posted! Join Stephanie Newberry, founder of AquaGym Fitness for a pool workout circuit-style that includes cardio, muscle conditioning and core training. Each circuit includes three exercises that can easily be customized to reflect the equipment you have on hand and the fitness goals you wish to achieve. The exercises are performed for 1 minute each followed by 15 seconds of recovery and then repeated. There are 5 circuits for a total workout time of 45 minutes.
As an aquatic fitness instructor for nearly 25 years, I can honestly say that I avoided circuit training like the plague in my classes. Having my students doing different exercises at various stations around the pool would quickly devolve into utter chaos. Stephanie has probably experienced this herself, hence the simplified circuit template of three stations.
WORKOUT-AT-A-GLANCE
Simple Circuits is a 45-minute pool workout that includes a warm-up, cool down and five circuits. Each circuit includes three different exercises/exercise stations. Each exercise is performed for 1 minute followed by 15 seconds of rest, and then all three exercises are repeated one more time. The repetition helps improve form and fatigue muscles.
The three exercise stations in the five circuits are as follows:
Exercise #1: The Aqualogix belles are used for upper body and core training.
Exercise #2: Foam dumbbells are used for upper body training.
Exercise #3: Equipment is not used. The exercises use water’s resistance for total body and core conditioning.
Watch Stephanie talk about the workout below and learn more about customizing this workout.
CUSTOMIZING WORKOUT
The beauty of a simple template such as this is that it can be easily customized. Anything goes here. If you don’t have Aqualogix belles or foam dumbbells, consider using webbed gloves, a pool noodles, a kickboard, or the pool wall. Obviously, you have to change the exercises to reflect the equipment you use. However, the video provides you timing for 1 minute and so you can just select some of your personal favorite exercises from other videos. Customizing allows you to keep the Simple Circuits video fresh and results driven depending on the fitness goals you hope to achieve. Many of the timed-interval workouts on Poolfit can be customized in this manner, including the popular Tabata workouts.
