Punch, Kick and Run

Elbows up in this combat-flavored pool workout.  HIIT and Run with AquaGym Fitness founder, Stephanie Newberry, is a 50-minute water workout that combines high intensity interval training (HIIT) with water running. Punch and kick in the HIIT segments and then run your way to the finish line. This shallow water pool workout uses just the water’s resistance and requires no equipment.

A hit and run in baseball terms is a strategic play that can advance the runner to a scoring position. The “HIIT” in this video is four minutes of punch & kick exercises, followed by a 1-minute run to home base and SCORE!  Stephanie and AquaGym Fitness are known for fast-paced, interval-style workouts. Their workouts feature simple but powerful exercises, along with repetition of movement that delivers results and makes the workout easy to follow.

HIIT and Run Pool Workout-at-a-Glance
This 50-minute water fitness video includes a warmup, cool down and seven exercise segments. Given the reference to a “Hit & Run” in baseball, the exercise segments are referred to as innings. Each of the seven innings is 5-minutes in length and includes 4 minutes of HIIT training and 1 minute of water running. Each of the 7 HIIT segments includes two moves, a punch exercise and a kick exercise.  Both are performed for 50 seconds followed by 10 seconds of rest, then repeated. The 1-minute run in each of the seven innings is varied so that the work effort ranges from hard, harder to hardest.
Below, Stephanie talks about the importance of water fitness and her inspiration for leading others on their wellness journey.
