Kickboxing Water Fitness

Wednesday, April 27 2022

Spring has sprung, the weather is getting warmer and now is a good time to heat up the pool with some splashy kickboxing cardio.  Join Sharlie Peterson and her mom, Shelley, for Aqua Turbo Kickboxing, a 45-minute shallow water workout that features kickboxing-inspired choreography that is intensified by the water’s resistance.

Sharlie and her mom traveled to Florida in March 2022 to film four videos.  Her first video, AMRAP HIIT, posted earlier this month and subscribers have commented that they love the mom and daughter camaraderie and Sharlie’s fun energy.  The founder of Shockwave Fitness, Sharlie teaches classes in Topeka, Kansas.  Prior to teaching, her mom, who was teaching aquatic fitness classes, encouraged her to take some classes to combat her health issues.  Sharlie suffers from gastroparesis, a stomach condition that in her case causes excessive bloating and weight gain.  Watch her talk more about her health struggles and her journey to the water.

Aqua Turbo Kickboxing:  Workout-at-a-Glance
This 45-minute shallow water workout features a more choreographed approach to kickboxing.  In addition to a warm-up and cool down, there are three extended sequences of exercises of kickboxing-inspired exercises.  Taught with predictable patterning, the moves are taught one at a time and then added on as the sequence builds.  Sometimes referred to as the building block method of fitness instruction, add-on keeps you mentally focused on the workout with memory recall as the moves are added on and repeated.  Watch Sharlie talk more about the Aqua Kickboxing Turbo workout.

Equipment Options
Kickboxing is ideal and actually more effective in the pool thanks to the water’s resistance.  The powerful drag resistance and turbulence encountered by the kicks and punches can be increased by adding drag equipment.  Webbed gloves are a must if you want to add some extra arm toning.  If you want even more resistance, consider incorporating the Aqualogix Upper body belles.

If you enjoyed the Aqua Turbo Kickboxing workout, please also consider trying the Aqua Kickboxing Gym Workout and Kicks, Drills & Thrills.  Both of these videos feature kickboxing-inspired cardio choreography.  Poolfit extends a big thank you to Sharlie for sharing her passion and energy with subscribers and we look forward to her other two videos posting in Summer 2022.  If you missed it in the last blog, watch Sharlie’s fun behind-the-scenes videos detailing her first filming experience.
