Fitness in a Chair

Tuesday, January 24 2023

Sit, Stand & Sculpt with Jenni Lynn Patterson-LaCour is a 50-minute chair workout designed to improve core strength, muscular endurance and joint mobility. Weather issues, health complications or a malfunctioning pool can all prevent you from enjoying your water workout. Therefore, Poolfit is dedicated to expanding their in-home fitness videos so that you don’t have to go a day without some kind of low-impact exercise.

This in-home workout includes seated exercises for gentle cardio and muscle conditioning that includes the use of small hand weights and a rubberized resistance band.  Strengthening core muscles is a primary focus of this video. Strong core muscles can improve posture and enhance activities of daily living. Exercises from AEA’s Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program were included to add some “movement medicine” to promote healthy joints. In portions of the video, Jenni Lynn uses a small set of hand weights and a rubberized resistance band.  However, the equipment is optional. The movements can be modified without using extra resistance.  Instead of hand weights, small cans from the pantry can be used. Rubberized resistance bands can be purchased cheaply on Amazon. Watch Jenni Lynn talk more about the workout and review an outline of the action below.
